India is the land of customs, religion, tradition, rituals… The list goes on. In all honesty of it, it is the land of Jewellery. Right from the smallest toe to the tip of your head, you can find gorgeous jewellery to adorn you. One such elegant piece of jewellery is the Maang Tikka, a forehead piece. This piece of Jewellery is usually worn for grand occasions and is paired with exquisite clothes. Such a combination demands no less than a stunning hairstyle.
Here are some gorgeous and easy maang tikka hairstyles.
Bouncy Curls
The soft curls perfectly complement the design if the maang tikka. Start by taking a centre partition of your hair. Use a curling iron to perm the hair into curls. Use a serum to give your hair a glowing finish. Take the maang tikka and place in on the centre of your forehead and pin the end to your hair using a bobby clip. You can even decide the intensity of the curls based on the grandeur of the maang tikka.
Traditional Bun
Perfect for South Indian attire, this maang tikka hairstyle is quite graceful and refined. The hair at the back of the head is combed. With the help of bobby pins and elastic bands, tie it at the back into a bun. The bun can be accessorized using flowers or jewellery. For women with a layer cut or a feather cut, the hair at the front can be gathered to one side or used to frame the face. The trick here is to place the maang tikka at the beginning of hairstyling so that the end is not visible. The maang tikka can be of varying sizes and the earrings can be chosen accordingly.
Plait
The plait considered to be boring and out of style is bought back in vogue when paired with a maang tikka. Paired with the correct hair accessories this is a killer look perfect for any outfit. There are quite a number of styles of plaiting, ranging from fishtail plait to French plait to a plain one at the back of the head. Start by dividing the hair into three equal parts and place them one above the other alternatively until you reach the end. To make it more stylish, make sure to take a side parting at the start. Once the plait is done, place the maang tikka on the centre of the forehead.

Semi Updo
This maang tikka hairstyle is the most classic way to go! Be it a lehenga, a gaghra, a sari or a nine yard’s, this elegant hairdo takes only a minute. Start of my combing the hair to perfection. Gather all the hair from the top portion of the head and keep it in place at the back of the head using bobby pins. Make sure to puff it up on the front to get a bouffant. Now using the end of the maang tikka and bobby pins place the jewellery on the tip of the forehead. Comb the rest of the hair and allow it to frame your face. Use dry shampoo on the short hairs on the forehead.
You can pick this hairstyle for gown as well.
Puff with a low bun
This is a combination of two hairdos and works well with all of the side parting, centre parting and no parting. Gather all the hair at the back and tie it into a low bun, loose at the roots. Let it cover the top of the ears to give a full feeling. Depending on the type of parting used, push all the bands to one side and allow it to hang lightly. Perfect for late-night parties, and business dinners, this maang tikka hair style will work wonders on every outfit.
Front Plait with free hair
This hairstyle with maang tikka is best suited for women with long hair. Start by partitioning your hair at the centre. Take a small section on one side from the front and split it into three smaller sections. Plait the hair by placing each small section on top of each other alternatively, until you reach the end. Now, using bobby pins, secured it at the back of your head so that it looks like a halo covering one side of your head. Repeat the same on the other side. Comb the rest of your hair to perfection.
In addition to all these styles, the simplest yet classy one would be to straighten the hair completely and place the maang tika at the centre. Maang tikka in itself is available in various designs, colours, shapes and sizes. One commonality is that they all are designed in such a way that it rests on the sixth chakra, at the centre of the forehead – the third eye or the power of the soul. It symbolically represents the ability to control emotions and the ability to concentrate. And there you have it, a perfect blend – a jewellery that satisfies the vanity as well as has a deep reason for existence.
